Forming part of the Sheppey prisons cluster along with HMP Elmley and HMP Swaleside, the prison has been in operation since 1950. Currently, it accommodates 462 adult male inmates as of July 2008 and has a capacity of 464. The institution is overseen by His Majesty’s Prison Service.

About Stanford Hill Prison
Stanford Hill Prison opened its doors in 1950 but underwent significant renovations in 1986 when the current inmate housing was built. As a Category D prison, it offers a more open environment for adult male inmates serving various sentences.
Stanford Hill Prison is part of a trio of facilities known as the Sheppey Cluster, along with HMP Elmley and HMP Swaleside. Managed by Governor Dawn Mauldon, the prison aims to provide inmates with opportunities for rehabilitation and preparation for reintegration into society.
