Swansea Prison is a Category B/C facility for adult and young adult male inmates, situated in the Sandfields area of Swansea, Wales. Often referred to as ‘Cox’s Farm’ after a former governor, the prison has been operational since 1861 and is currently run by His Majesty’s Prison Service (HMPS). As of November 2016, the prison had a population of 480 inmates and a capacity to hold up to 468 prisoners, making it one of the most overcrowded prisons in England and Wales.
