How to Book a Visit at Risley Prison
Online Booking:
You can conveniently book a social visit via email at SocialVisitsRisley@justice.gov.uk.
Phone Booking:
Visits can also be scheduled by calling either 01925 733284 or 01925 733285. The phone lines are open from Monday to Friday, between 9:00am-11:30am and 1:30pm-3:30pm.
Visiting Times
Risley Prison employs a two-week rotating schedule for visitation. The timetable for the visiting slots varies based on the inmates’ wing assignments:
- Week 1:
- Monday to Thursday afternoons for wings A-D, and E-G
- Saturday and Sunday mornings for wings E-G
- Week 2:
- Monday to Thursday afternoons for wings A-D, and E-G
- Saturday and Sunday mornings for wings A-D
Morning visits commence at 9:00am, while afternoon sessions start at 2:00pm.
Visitors Centre Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11:45am – 4:45pm
- Saturday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Sunday: 8:00am – 12:00pm
What to Bring to Risley Prison
All visitors are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled visit and are subject to security checks. Make sure to bring an acceptable form of ID and any necessary documentation.
Security Check
Upon entry, visitors will go through an enhanced gate security metal detector and may be subjected to a pat-down search, including children. Personal items will be placed in a tray for searching or x-ray scanning.

Additional Information
HM Prison Risley initially began as a remand center for both males and females. It transformed into a training prison in 1989 and underwent further expansion in 2003. Specialized units for sex offenders and foreign nationals have been added over the years, along with a drug recovery unit on C Wing.
